CODE RESOURCES - Fire Ratings

Fire Resistance Ratings:

U. L. Web Site - Various Assemblies

Tip #1:  To find a specific UL design, enter exact UL number within box: "Fire Resistive Design."

Tip #2:  To find several like designs, click on "Numbering Information..." (within the Fire Resistive Design area) then within table click on item to search. For example, to search for roof/ceiling wood truss design systems in the "L" row for construction click on Gypsum Board Column 500 -599 for ratings of gypsum board construction. Then if list is too large, click on "Refine Your Search " to narrow down the number of selections.

Tip #3:  For general UL information (limitations, variations allowed, and etc.) click on "UL Design Information ..." within the Fire Resistive Design area.

U. L. Fire Resistance Directory (3 volumes): Order Form: On this page click on "Directory Order Form" then print, fill out form with "Fire Resistance Code C" checked off, and mail in.  To read description for "Code C" go to bottom of this page. Note, a CD version is also available.

American Wood Council: Has fire resistance rating information for I-joists, flame spread ratings, fire rating for various wood construction, and other helpful information. Five very good publications are available online called DCA publications.

National Gypsum Association:  Fire and Sound ratings of various assemblies.

United States Gypsum, Catalog on Fire & Sound Rated Designs: This is a large 16 mb pdf file and will take a minute or two to download with a high speed internet connection, but this 80 page catalog is well worth the time to print for your library since it has all the USG fire resistance & sound ratings for the various types of assemblies.

    Area Separation Wall: This is a 16 page pdf brochure.

Georgia Pacific:Fire and Sound ratings of various assemblie including Area Separation Walls.

Gypsum Association, Fire Resistance Design Manual, 18th Edition: Click this link then click on Publications. This manual can be order or downloaded free as a pdf document.
